Washington’s First Thanksgiving Proclimation

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor — and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me ‘to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

“And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions — to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually — to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed — to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn [sic] kindness onto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord — To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease [sic] of science among them and us — and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789. George Washington.”

The reason we are so divided today starts at the core of our nations most basic, fundamental principle…that are One Nation Under am Almighty God and our rights do not come from man but Our Creator. These words….

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We cannot agree on these basic principles today. Our current President -Elect cannot even recite these words because they are not politically correct. He refers to our Declaration of Independence as “you know the thing.”

Lord help our nation on this Thanksgiving to find our way back to you through the dinner table. Gathering this year may be more important than ever. We can choose to live in fear or we can choose to live in reverence to an almighty God. Yes I am gathering with my family for Thanksgiving. I guess if that makes me inhumane or means I don’t care about people then count me a humanitarian because all these so called humanitarians for the last 4 years have been calling for the head and death of our President. Including those who have stood for these same principles. We have been called racists, deplorables, bigots, homophobic, transphobic, Nazis, etc.

So do not lecture me on the value of human life and tolerance and unity when in fact you have no problem destroying the life of an unborn baby. You only want unity so long as it fits your agenda. It’s unity or shut up. Lord help us find our way back to you.
